YESSSSSS! Thanks for this Dr. Jess! It has taken me a long, long time to understand and get to this place. Sometimes you just need sleep. You may want sex in every way, but your body just says no. I push my body all the time, forgoing sleep for all kinds of reasons—some good, some not so good. And over the years, I’ve definitely jumped into sex even when I am just not up for it. I would still prefer to stay up all the time doing fun things…but sleep…take it when you can get it.

Very sound and reasonable advice on openly discussing sex in personal ads from Erica of A Sexy Woman of a Certain Age. I’m particularly taken with two of her points: women don’t need to police men’s behaviour—men do, and encouraging authenticity. If I’m ever in the position to be posting and reading personal ads, these are key (as well as her other great points). I think many more potential matches will start off on the right foot (or back) by adopting these ideals.

The increasing medicalization of sex is a bit frightening. I’m not leery of medicine that reaches those who need it. And, as Dr. Trina Read notes when considering a little pink pill to improve women’s sex lives, there are definitely some women who, physiologically, do need some sort of “kickstart” to their libido that could come from hormone therapy. Just as there are some men who were positively—and justifiably—helped by Viagra. However, as Trina also notes, there are, potentially, many different reasons behind diminished libido.
