Best Sex Writing of the Year

Editor Jon Pressick seeks submissions of writings on the wide world of sex for inclusion in Best Sex Writing of the Year (formerly Best Sex Writing 2015)due for release in early 2015 from Cleis Press.

As many sexual topics move from the shadows to public discussion, lines between taboo and mainstream are being blurred, balanced on and sometimes leapt over with glee. Best Sex Writing of the Year will collect those stories that remain hidden, those that are growing and challenging our collective conscious and those that highlight changes, for the good and bad that have already come to pass.

The potential topics to be explored vary widely and can include any of the following from that wide world of sex: sex education, sex and disability, sexual exploration, legalities of sex, cultural sexual differences, sex in society, pornography, asexuality, sex and entertainment, queer issues, sex and parents and parenting, fetish, polyamory, relationships, sex in the arts, sex and science, sex and politics, transgender issues, sex and marketing, and much,much more.

Articles, criticism, blog posts, memoir and more will be considered for the next edition of this highly-acclaimed series. Past contributors to the Best Sex Writing series iinclude: Jonathan Letham, Mary Roach, Tristan Taormino, Violet Blue, Carol Queen, Rachel Kramer Bussel and many more. Previous editions of Best Sex Writing have included writing that has appeared in national magazines and newspapers, independent magazines, student newspapers, blogs, zines, websites, journals, memoirs and more.

Requirements: Story must have been published (or slated to be published) between January 1, 2013 and March 31, 2014, online and/or in print (book, magazine, zine or newspaper). No unsolicited unpublished work; reprints only.

  • please send submissions as double-spaced Word .docx or RTF attachments to bestsexwriting2015 at gmail.com
  • a maximum of THREE pieces per writer will be considered
  • put “Submission” in the subject line.
  • you MUST include your full contact information—name, email address, mailing address, phone number
  • a bio of no more than 150 words
  • exact publication details of your submission (title of publication, date of publication, and any other relevant information). ONLY SEND WORK YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO REPRINT.

Fiction and poetry will not be considered.

Editors may submit up to three works from their publication, following the guidelines above. Please make it clear that you are the editor submitting work for consideration from your publication. Please include each work’s contributor contact information with the submission.
