How Men Want Intimacy in Bed

I was completely turned off by the title of this piece (a clever trick by Thomas Fiffer!) and almost didn’t read it, but I am glad I did! These three things that men want in bed is personally relatable and, I think, relevant to a lot of other blokes out there. Why are these three things not discussed by men? Because they move into levels of intimacy men think they can’t/shouldn’t experience and their partners think the same way. Intimacy can be a great connection…which can equal better sex for all.

Should We Talk About the Fact That Anal Sex Might Hurt?—My Latest on Kinkly!

My most recent article on Kinkly “Should We Talk About the Fact That Anal Sex Might Hurt?” is a consideration of pain potential. Of course, we celebrate the joys and pleasures of sex—anal included—but should we also bring to the discussion the potential for a wide range of unpleasant sensation. It could be awesome, it could be okay, it could be uncomfortable, it could be awful. It may or may not have something to do with what you’re doing and it may or may not have something to do with what your partner is doing. Or does prefacing discussion with …

Pegging as Violence?

I’ve been intrigued by the concept of PTSD and “violent” sex since reading Mac McClelland’s work. However, this piece, while very interesting, had me confused right from the beginning because I feel a part of the narrative has been left out. Since when has pegging been, automatically, equated with violent sex?  She does address this at the end of the piece, but it really seems something was cut or left out near the beginning. Or is that how she really felt about strap-on sex, that it had to be about domination, that that penetration had to be about violence? It …

The Scientific Interest in Sex

Does your body shape indicate what type of sex (and sex parts) you have? I just came across this older piece by one of my favourite sex writer Kate Hakala. One part of me is always a bit a surprised that some of these things are actually being observed and studied. But the other part of me looks at findings and correlations and thinks, “damn good thing people are studying this!” We are still learning so much about sex and sexuality. I remain shocked that these took such a backseat in terms of study for so long. Of course, we …
