Sex Toy Review: The Handy

The Handy is a toy I really want to like…I just don’t like it yet.

As the market fills in with more and more mechanical penis masturbators, we’re seeing a gradual evolution in innovation and quality. This is great news for pleasure! However, in the meantime, products are being released that have some good features, but other aspects that definitely need further work.

SweetTech AS, the company that created The Handy (check out their video) is definitely on the right track and I really appreciate their customer service and efforts. They reached out and offered me the device in exchange for an honest review and have been present and forthcoming with information. This business model will take them far. And when they make some improvements to The Handy, I think their toy will as well.

So, The Handy is a motorized masturbator that combines a soft sleeve attached to a strong motor that strokes up and down in a rhythmic motion at various speeds. Pretty simple premise that mimics the experience of most folks who self-pleasure their penis.

What Works Well:

The motor on The Handy is very, very impressive. If you like a nice steady stroke, at any speed or length, the device will make you very, very happy. If you’re looking for a long, langorous session, just slip in and relax while your penis is stroked effortlessly. You can adjust the speed to be a slow, lazy stroke to a frenetic pace. To accommodate folks with different lengths of penis as well as personal preference, the stroke length is also adjustable. You can enjoy little up and downs or stretch it out. This device is what is going to set The Handy apart from other strokers after they work out some other issues…

What Needs Work:

I was a little disconcerted shortly after I opened the package. I checked the toy and unwrapped the sleeve to see what it is made of. Looks like TPR or TPE. It is soft and pleasant feeling, but TPR and TPE are porous. They are safe, however I am not generally a fan. Then I left the sleeve on a box and when I returned, it had left a significant stain on the cardboard. I am not a fan of materials that ooze. This does not make me feel good about the product.

Still, I did try it, and here’s the biggest problem with The Handy. The contraption to attach the sleeve to the motor is very, very difficult and annoying to manage. It took me a few tries because I kept losing my erection trying to make the velcro-esque straps wrap around the sleeve properly and then stay in place. I’ve made it work a few times, but if I were in the heat of the moment really wanting to self-pleasure, I’d be very, very frustrated. Fortunately, I hear the company is already working to improve this aspect.

I was also a bit disappointed that The Handy has to be plugged into a power source to work. If you delve into the product, you’ll find that they are attempted many different connectivity modes (which I am not interested in and did not pursue)…but it isn’t even rechargeable. And the power supply cord is akin to what you’d use for a laptop. Big and clunky. This seems a basic component of sex toy technology in 2020. Being tethered to a cord can be very inconvenient.

The Result:

Did I orgasm? Yes. Did it feel good? Yes. I am not saying that The Handy isn’t a pretty solid sex toy. It is. It will curl your toes in the best possible way. However, I think with some further development it will become a true leader in penis pleasure. You’re on the right track and I’m looking forward to future iterations.
