Marriage Through the Ages—Or, What’s Love Got to Do With It?

I have no interest in marriage. I was engaged at one point, a long time ago. The ceremony never happened and I’ve never looked back.

Why?

Because I don’t need to exchange lands or ensure a lineage. I don’t need to make alliances with neighbours to ensure access to water and resources. I don’t need to Ensure the proper running of a household and I sure as hell don’t need to fulfill some kind of community expectation.

If you think marriage is the right thing for you (for the above reasons or others), then go for it! If people want to get married, let them! Don’t force people into it and don’t deny people who want it.

Sounds pretty damn simple.
