Wow! Fantastic piece on hackneyed tropes of nerds and sex. It has been a long time since I’ve seen Revenge of the Nerds, but now that I think back on that scene with the Darth Vader mask, my oh my, Arthur Chu nails it. Nerds have been safely slotted into that chaser, prove himself, good guy in the end role for so long that we’ve forgotten to rethink what that role is. And Chu is right, that role is often about harassment, manipulation and dishonesty. And in some extreme cases, rape and violence. And then in the most unthinkable cases…Eliot Rodgers.
