As Dr. Lehmiller notes, “it appears that the notion of “safe, sane, and consensual” is more than just a common saying and actually provides a true reflection of how sadomasochism is most frequently experienced in reality.” This is not the message portrayed in media, films and television. SM activities are more often associated with disturbed individuals.
