I’ll be heading back into Toronto for day 2 of the Feminist Porn Conference in a little bit. Yesterday I caught the following sessions:
Feminist Porn: What It Is, What It Isn’t & Why It Matters
Lynn Comella, Courtney Trouble, Ms. Naughty, Tanesha H.D.
Pornographers Without Borders
Jennifer Lyon Bell, Pandora Blake,
Ms. Naughty, Ovidie, Constance Penley (mod.)
Film Screening + Director Q&A:
Rhabillage
Ovidie
(France)

Ovidie

Opening Keynote: Lisa Duggan
introduced by Lynn Comella
Room 1160 (1st Floor)
When I have some time, I might through up some notes I took during the first two session. What has struck me the most has been learning about the legalities of porn, the access to porn and the culture of porn in different countries. I wasn’t planning to go to Ovidie’s screening, but it was too tempting to pass up after hearing her in the Pornographers Without Borders session. So much of the information I read and see and hear on porn is from a specifically North American perspective and I definitely had some assumptions about what it is like in other places, particularly France and Australia. Fascinating things to learn.
Today, I think I know my session route, but I’m not sure. The Biz Track sessions are a fantastic idea…but am I ever going to get into making porn? Hmmm, probably not. During the Feminist Porn Awards I did think of an idea for a short I’d love to produce, but I lack two major attributes—cash and skill! We’ll see. Some of the sessions have to do with web development…I wonder if I could put that time down as training for my PA at work? Would be fun to explain!
Gotta get ready to go!
