Nica Noelle makes a compelling case for the potential of art, nuance and authentic emotion in porn and how that can sometimes surpass that of mainstream film. I cannot speak directly about Blue is the Warmest Colour as I haven’t seen it, but I have rarely felt that mainstream film and television truly capture sex. Could this be because the performers are explicitly not gong to have sex? Can porn performers, because they will eventually be partaking, embody sexual anticipation and tension better because sex will come?
