In some respects, I really enjoy Stefanie William’s critique of Belle Knox‘s situation, but ultimately, I’m disappointed.
What I like? The style. I need to read more Stefanie.
What I don’t like? The substance. She cites some pretty strong “fact” without any backup. Otherwise known as uninformed opinion.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I haven’t seen any coverage wherein Belle Knox tells other women to go into porn to pay the bills. She does say it works for her. She does say it empowers her. But honestly, there’s been so much coverage that I really might have missed her porn employment recruitment speech.
Also, from what I gather, Stefanie’s never done porn. But she GETS porn is tough shit. She GETS porn is full of rough times, bad decisions and broken spirits. The drugs, of course. People hurt by the industry. And as a self-proclaimed sex positive superstar who “gets porn” and and just recently watched a really degrading clip, she’s fine with condemning someone who has a positive association with the industry. Without ever citing a single source, reference, film, director, performer who has ever said a single negative thing about the industry. But she doesn’t need to, she GETS it.
Well, I don’t currently work in any of the following industries, but I’m going to throw a few other occupations that are involved in degrading women, affected by drugs, aren’t something 19 year olds should get involved in and can be a generally bad experience for “weak minded or timid or naïve or inexperienced women”:

Does porn have problems? Yes. Recently, you can read of Jennie Ketcham‘s experiences and worry about the industry. Scary stuff that should be considered if you are thinking of jumping into a porn career. Or you can read the work of Madison Young, Tristan Taormino, Allison Vivas, and many more. You can follow the writings on the feminist porn movement. You can do some reading on the world of porn as well with the release of Porn Studies, V1. There are many, many stories out there.
Or you can take Belle Knox at her word that she is having a positive experience at this point in the industry. Is she only 19 and possibly precocious? Maybe. Lorde is only, what, 17 and people went apeshit in love with her because she displayed a strong maturity. The same type of maturity that Belle is displaying. The type you’re not displaying by throwing up a blog post about how you KNOW all about porn.
