The Queer Community’s Surprising Ally: Professional Hockey

As someone who grew up playing hockey in small and semi-small town Canada, I am well-aware of the anti-queer element that is rampant within the hockey community. “Faggot” was a pretty common epithet on the ice…and I only played until the beginning of high school (granted that was 25 years ago) So here’s hoping the National Hockey League’s continued initiatives trickle—no, flood the lower-level mentality that makes hate language, seemingly, a part of the game.
