Sadly, this is not surprising. My workplace has a firewall and I am always surprised when sites I know to be purely about education are blocked (while plenty of others manage to sneak through).
Also, one of the key issues in sex education today is a reasonable reading and understanding of pornography. If sites for teens block educational discussions on porn, then where are they to have read the arguments to make good decisions? Last I heard the UK does not have a progressive sex ed program in schools.
This whole situation is just so foolish and ill-conceived.
