This is an excellent article about living in the polyamory closet. Feeling societal pressure to hide your loving relationships is a very difficult thing to work through while you try to build those relationships. It can stress and strain everyone involved. And indeed, queer folks have definitely dealt with all of the struggles he outlined.
I do have to note that it is a bit ironic that Carey evokes the image of the closet, which has been most associated with queer peoples’ struggles, but he is a bit naive about their continuing struggle. No, queer folks don’t have it made yet. Beard marriages and difficulty with housing still exist in many areas.
However, I don’t want to take away from the strong writing on polyamory here. I do think we will see many more people coming out of that closet in the coming years.
