It isn’t often that I’m more interested in the comments on an article than the article itself, but I’m really perplexed by the comments on Ashley Thompson‘s piece on “trendy bisexuality.” This is a legitimate argument and feeling in the bi community. Every time the wave comes to glorify female bisexuality (I’m counting three major waves since my high school days), people who cope with, celebrate and struggle with their own bisexuality get questioned, glamourized and stigmatized further.
And it can certainly be just for the male gaze. I’ve known women like this. I also know a lot of women who do identify as bisexual. They aren’t the same people. And Thompson is absolutely 100% correct in saying this phenomenon definitely doesn’t go the other way. Despite the popularity of Queer As Folk a a few years back, there are not media and cultural celebrations of male bisexuality. Ever. Never.
A good article!
