Sapphic Aquatica—Women Exploring Sexuality and Fun!

There will be many great events during Toronto’s annual Pride season. One of the hottest will be both a fun and sexy time, as well as a chance for some positive sex ed. Sapphic Aquatic at Oasis Aqualounge will give women the opportunity to explore sex and their sexuality with workshops, excitement and some hot beats.

I chatted with Fatima Mechtab, organizer about this upcoming slippery good time.

Tell us about Sapphic Aquatica?
“Sapphic Aquatica” is a monthly event exclusively to women and those who identify as women, held at Oasis Aqualounge. On the last Tuesday of every month, guests can enjoy the club’s spa facilities and various play rooms at this up-scale sex club, located in the heart of downtown Toronto. This event encourages a fun and safe exploration of sexuality within a clean and beautiful 3-story space. Each month, “Sapphic Aquatica” will feature something special and unique; DJ’s, workshops, games and theme nights. The night promises to promote healthy sexual expression within an inclusive environment. We are always open to suggestions, so if you have an idea or comment you would like to share, please get in touch!

What is the first thing people say when they come into the event?
Women who have attended for the first time are generally very pleased with the venue—Oasis Aqualounge. They often take some time to explore the space and love to check out the spa area, outdoor heated pool and of course, the dungeon and semi-private play rooms! I love giving new guests a guided tour upon their arrival to ease them into the “Sapphic” experience! I also host ice breakers at each event which intrigue the guests and gives comfort to new faces.

What are you planning for your Pride edition?
The PRIDE addition of Sapphic Aquatic promises to be a sparkling celebration of sexuality! We are excited to host the group ‘Sexuality and Consciousness Awakenings +‘, who will be facilitating a workshop on female-pleasure seeking! For a small additional fee, guests will be guided through a series of playful exercises using lube, toys and curiosity! S.A. Pride is also excited to welcome DJ QUINCES who will be rocking our bodies on the dance floor!

Other exciting features will be a “Kissing Booth,” where if you plant your luscious lips on the host—myself, “Miss F”—you could win naughty merchandise courtesy of The Shop on Church St. We will also host a “Best Booty Shaker” contest. Shake, thrust and drop your booty to the beats of DJ Quinces! The winner will be chosen by audience applause and will receive a prize pack of scandalous sex toys! We will be rocking our bodies and the dance floor.

What aspects of sexuality are women most interested in learning about and exploring when they come out to Sapphic Aquatica?
The women I have spoken to seem to have an interest in educational workshops regarding their own sexuality—from pleasuring their/their partner’s bodies to elements of BDSM. Guests also seem to enjoy games and ice breakers, as they can ease one’s initial shyness and facilitate future hook-ups! One game I host is called “Tie Me Up,” where women choose a colored ribbon from a box based on their favorite sexual activity. For example, a purple ribbon means “I like kink,” a blue ribbon means “I like to watch.” The idea is that they can easily spot a like-minded individual and begin a conversation based on their interests.

What are you planning for the future?
I am very excited about future plans for S.A.! On July 30th, I will be hosting the beautiful and talented Belle Jumelles —a voluptuous burlesque performer and cabaret singer. DJ Lady Coleco—a resident of OUT Lounge—will be spinning deep, hard electro beats to get your libido pumping! S.A. July will also double as my birthday party, so I am expected some birthday spankings in the dungeon that night!

In the coming months, I want to include charity and fundraising elements to this monthly event. I am interested in working with and giving back to organizations such as the Toronto Rape Crisis Centre and Maggies-Toronto Sex Workers Action Project. I feel that it is important to involve and support groups from the LGBTQ* community, as it relates to the event. When it comes to sex and events, the more, the merrier!
