HOW TO START A (SEXUAL) REVOLUTION
Hosted by Conner Habib
3 Sessions, starts June 19
Explore the power of sex to catalyze deep change in yourself and in society.
Sex is every person’s creation story. Sex and desire pulse through our everyday lives, as well as our cultural institutions, relationships, and even our political structures. It creates intense attractions, brings people together, and shows up in our thoughts every day.
Sex has also been totally misunderstood, demonized, legislated against, shamed, and used to control individuals and populations. And because sex is the oldest (and most fun!) way to enter into an altered state of consciousness, the war on sex is the first war on consciousness.
In this course – led by sex columnist, writer, philosopher, and adult film star Conner Habib – we’ll investigate how to create new perspectives on sex and how sex can help create a better world. Conner’s unique perspective on sex and society are establishing him as one of the most provocative emerging voices on issues of sexuality. Earlier this year, he was the first gay porn star to speak at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
How can we liberate ourselves from cultural sexual conditioning and find our own sexual identities?
How do sex, political power, and hierarchies intertwine?
How can we make sex and healthy sexual attitudes a force for cultural change?
What are the mystical, energetic, and everyday experiences of sex and sexual identity?
How do we support each other (and ourselves) while the war on sex continues?
Between sessions, Conner will offer do-it-at-home exercises about sex, sexuality, identity, gender, and revolution.
SCHEDULE
Samuel “Chip” Delany
Wednesday, June 19
5:00 p.m.. San Francisco • 8:00 p.m. New York
Our first session will explore the furthest reaches of the sexual imagination with iconic and visionary author, Samuel Delany.
Samuel Delany is the considered by many to be one of the most important writers of our time, and is the author of nearly fifty books, including science fiction novels (Dhalgren; Stars in My Pocket Like Grains of Sand), memoir (The Motion of Light in Water; Heavenly Breakfast) and social criticism (Times Square Red, Times Square Blue).
Delany’s writing investigates lust and desire, and the sexually explicit nature of our imaginations. Because of this, his work has frequently been banned and scrutinized by lawmakers. Taking no boundary or concept for granted, we’ll discuss what it means to incorporate sex into creativity, how to confront societal norms around sex and art, and the power that comes from understanding transgression.
Wednesday, June 26
5:00 p.m.. San Francisco • 8:00 p.m. New York
Duncan Trussell is a stand-up comedian, mystic, and host of the wildly popular podcast, The Duncan Trussell Family Hour. He’s also a regular guest on the Joe Rogan Experience, and has appeared on Drunk Historyand Mad TV. Each week on his podcast, Duncan explores the spiritual, political, and social landscape blending humor with deep thinking.
In our second session, we’ll explore the everyday nature of sexuality and openness, sexual feelings of longing and anxiety, and how humor intersects with the sex in our lives. We’ll also look at the intersection of sex and spirituality – both taboo subjects in polite conversation – and how radical openness and honesty can create change in ourselves, invite others into new types of conversation about the sexual experience, and inspire new perspectives on the intertwining of sex and spirit.
Buck Angel and Tristan Taormino
Wednesday, July 3
5:00 p.m.. San Francisco • 8:00 p.m. New York

About Our Host
Conner Habib is a writer, gay porn star, and lecturer. He appears on a weekly web show on Logo TV’s website, NewNowNext.com, where he unites his experience with a philosophical perspective, providing answers to viewers’ difficult questions about sex, relationships, and sexuality.
For three years, Conner taught creative writing, literature, and composition at the University of Massachusetts, where he studied creative writing and biology, and where he was awarded the Distinguished Teaching Award. Noting the lack of sexuality and spirituality in academia, he moved to San Francisco in 2007 to pursue his dream of becoming an adult film actor, and runs a Rudolf Steiner spirituality and science discussion group.
As a gay adult film performer, he is one of the most recognizable workers in the industry, and has been awarded with a Grabby and a GayVN for his work.
In 2013, he was the first gay porn star to speak at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. His writing has appeared on/in: Salon.com, The Advocate, Buzzfeed.com, Best Sex Writing 2013, Andrew Sullivan’s The Dish, Lynn Margulis: The Life and Legacy of a Scientific Rebel, and more. His book, tentatively entitled Everything You’re Not Supposed To Know About Sex, will be published by Disinformation books in 2014.
