In a move that was surprisingly quiet and underplayed (or I just missed it until today), the Toronto Sun featured Amelia, a transwoman as their Sunshine Girl last Friday.
For those outside of Canada, the Sun is our right wing, tabloid paper. It is rarely considered progressive, it is very conservative and the Sunshine Girl has long been derided as exploitative.
But now, after featuring Amelia, Sun readers are up in arms and have apparently started a petition. A petition!
For fucks sakes people, shut the hell up. Good for you Amelia for not giving a shit what they are saying. And in a rare instance, I’ll say good on the Sun and editor James Wallace for this move.
