Here’s a new interpretation on the long-running question of why men don’t appear naked on film.
Personally, I’ve been baffled by this double-standard since I was a kid. I figured out early on that ladies got naked, dudes didn’t. I didn’t understand it then and I don’t understand it now.
There are so many issues at play: patriarchal control over female bodies, objectification, fear of nudity, particularly male…it just saddens me. I commend male actors who have gone to skin in film roles, including Ewan MacGregor, Michael Fassbender, Kevin Bacon and others, as well as the directors and writers who have included that aspect in the script.
