GLAD DAY BOOKSHOP
SEEKING NEW SHAREHOLDERS
Glad Day Bookshop is the world’s oldest surviving lesbian, gay, bi, trans & queer bookstore. Last year, this historic Toronto shop almost closed but a group of 22 community members pooled our funds and saved the store. The goal of our first year was to stabilize the business. We are now looking to move from survival to strength.
Some of our original group are moving on to focus on other personal goals, which has made a small number of shares available for purchase. You should know that it will be many years before any Shareholder will see a return on their investment, and even that is not a guarantee. This endeavour is best for people who want to make a difference, make art, make love, make connections or make history.
The minimum expectations of Shareholders are:
– Volunteer at least 10 hours per month on projects, programs or initiatives of your choice.
– Attend two Shareholder meetings per year
– Read and reply to monthly email correspondence from the Board of Directors
– Support and promote Glad Day Bookshop programs and initiatives within your networks
At this phase in our organization, we want to take this opportunity to increase the skill diversity of our owner group to improve the store. Specifically, we are looking for people who have education, training and experience in one of the following areas:
Accounting (APPLY HERE)
Marketing (APPLY HERE)
Building, Repairs and Renovations (APPLY HERE)
If you fit one of the categories above, please fill out the simple online form and we’ll be in touch with you.
