I‘m mot saying that some of these myths aren‘t out there, but the way Jerry Stocking handles them is troubling.
He is very preoccupied with this crushing cultural influence idea. Sure there is merit to that, but for many, fighting cultural norms and expectations is commonplace. We are a very critical and saavy society. Sure more needs to be done, but we aren‘t all sheep. Hence a website like The Good Men Project.
As for the 3 myths, are the first 2 as culturally now as they were 40 years ago? I just don‘t think they are. Women‘s sexual appetites are much more known (though not entirely understood or accepted). It is a common trope of rom-coms! And this idea of men having to ask out women? Can we not all agree that is officially antiquated unless you live in a farming community without access to Sex and the City and the Spring Dance is coming?
As for this “almost got laid“ idea…where‘s the myth? That men have fantasies and imaginations? Sure, if a guy lives of these ir goes on to harrass his almost sex partner, then yes there is a problem. But if it lives just in his spank bank then what is the issue?
Personally I found the points near the end about ejaculation and orgasm far more constructive than outdated and already debunked issues.
