I need to read more about the idea of enthusiastic consent. It seems to be something I can get behind, but this article leaves me a little unsettled. Maybe because it is a bit scattered, maybe because it takes a pot shot at porn in relation to rape culture. I’m unsure. But I want to read more.
As I understand it, it is an initiative to open the dialogue about potential sex so that a woman have a more confident ability to express her interest or lack thereof to have sex. And it also engages and teaches men about empathy and understanding of women’s feelings and desires while at the same time deconstructing social masculinity standards and beliefs about women.
Can there be a balance between No Means No and Enthusiastic Consent? Being prepared and understanding risk while at the same time being in charge of your choices and desires?
