We MUST Teach Men Not to Rape

Why is this such a shocking idea to so many?
I spotted this recap of Zerlina Maxwell‘s appearance on Hannity on SlutWalk Toronto‘s Facebook. They stand behind Maxwell and so do I.
In fact, I am truly perplexed that anyone could question the need to reprogram men so that they don’t rape.
Does that sound extreme? Surely all men aren’t rapists, you say. Of course not, all men aren’t rapists but all of us do have the potential to be rapist. We are born into a society and culture of rape. Our media still, overwhelmingly, reinforces male superiority and dominion over females. Our laws are still far too lenient and men are still getting slaps on the wrist—if that!—after committing rape.
And for that, we need teaching. We need to be brought into the dialogue. We need to be told what is right and what is wrong. Far too many men grow up not knowing that they have privilege, it is so ingrained in us.
Thank you Zerlina Maxwell for bringing these ideas to the mainstream media. Thank you for trying and whether that storm of contempt.
