It’s Time We Talked
We’ve watched so many of our most favourite independent Toronto sex shops and booksellers close their doors for a final time over the past couple of years. Rest in Peace: This Ain’t The Rosedale Library, Red Tent Sisters, The Toronto Women’s Bookstore, Lucky You – even MissBehavin’. To be honest, we’ve grieved a little for ourselves with each and every closing, knowing in our hearts that we might be next. And we may very well be.
We always knew there was no pot-of-gold at the end of this rainbow – we’ve always kind of just been into rainbows – but when our rent went up last year, and our sales went down, it wasn’t our success that was in jeopardy, it was our survival.
Fortunately, if there’s ever been one thing we’re all phenomenal at, it is self-sacrifice for the sake of the co-operative. We’ve made some pretty major schedule changes, cut benefits, lowered wages, and begged our landlord to cut us a deal. We’ve never been so motivated in our lives.
Stay tuned for our USE IT OR LOSE IT sale where your favourite co-operative sex shop liberates dollars from all of those Fleshlights in our basement!
