I only encountered one instance of this, and I am glad to read that I think I handled it pretty well.
I just leaned over and casually said “that’s an activity for yourself, that you should do on your own in your room.” I think it worked.
But Dr. Levkoff is absolutely right about the shame that is thrust upon masturbation by society. Instead of embracing the most simple and basic pleasure we can enjoy, we’ve taken masturbation and turned it into a perversion. And that gets embedded in kids at a very early age.
Hopefully many parents will read her article and take her advice!
