Hope From a Hastag: #YesAllWomen

I greatly appreciate this post and the collection of powerful tweets originating from the hashtag #YesAllWomen. I hope this conversation can be sustained. I hope that we won’t forget those who died. I hope we don’t forget that women live through harassment and violence every day. I hope we don’t forget that change has to come at a societal and cultural level. I hope we don’t forget that men have to part of the conversation and solution because men are the most significant (though not entire) problem.

I hope I don’t forget that I have two daughters who will be affected by systemic violence and harassment of women. I hope I don’t forget that I have to stand up to and shut down any so-called Pick Up Artist or Men’s Rights Advocate who is attempting to remain in control of women. I hope I don’t forget that I have privilege and that whenever I can I will use that privilege to be an ally in whatever way I can. I hope I don’t forget the École Polytechnique massacre of December 6, 1989.

I hope we learn.
