Sex Schoolin’: Hot for Teachers January 2014

Welcome back to my monthly introduction of sex educators and sexologists I follow and read. These are the folks who are getting us the information about sex that we need, whether we are sharing that information with others or learning ourselves.

Role call!

Those familiar with this blog will already be familiar with my affection for the Queen of smutty smarties Elle Chase. Between her widely-followed sensual images blog Lady Cheeky (where does she find them all???), her own fantastic writing, reprinting all kinds of great sex writing and her workshops, Elle has carved out a great place for herself. Smut for Smarties is a must-read site!

Drs. Chuck and Jo-Ann Bird
When talking about sex, you just can’t beat the synergy you get when you’re learning from a couple. Drs. Chuck and Jo-Ann Bird are a fantastic sexologist couple who have put up over one hundred sex education and advice videos. Their Intimate Chats with the Love Birds videos are great to watch and learn from because you can feel their passion for their work through their own connection.

Dr. Marty Klein

I first came across Dr. Marty Klein through an article he wrote about circumcision. Ever since then I read anything of his I can lay my eyes on. I’ve seen him in videos, but even had I not, I was able to imagine how he would talk to me through his writing style. He is not afraid to touch on controversial subjects and his candour is refreshing. Brilliant and relatable.

Although she is retired from media for a number of years, Sue Johanson left an indelible mark on my sexual self. I watched her Sunday Night Sex Show (later, in the US, Talk Sex with Sue Johanson) as often as I could in my teen years—and I knew many others who did just the same. While she looked like our grandmothers, the inimitable Sue was probably the main source of sex ed for many people my age—and the best part is that she was probably the best provider of sex ed. She answered viewer questions with humour and compassion, she gave us the straight facts and she talked about everything. A true sex ed institution.
